Privacy

A few personal words

Before sharing the more standardized version of Musea's privacy policy with you, I'd like to explain it in a more personal way.

Privacy is very important to me. That's why Musea is designed to protect yours. None of the data you enter in the app ever leaves your phone. Your photos, the names of artworks, the places where you see them—all are stored only on your device.

The only thing that leaves your phone is anonymized information about how the app is used — for instance, which buttons are tapped on each screen, how long the app stays open before closing, or from which country it is accessed. These data are grouped together with those from other users, allowing me to see if anything in the app is unclear, not intuitive, or could be improved. I want to emphasize that this information is both anonymized and aggregated; I have no way of knowing who pressed which button or when.

Not even indirectly. That means I can't know "John Doe tapped this button," nor can I know "Someone living near Main Street with a red iPhone tapped this button." The only things I can see are general insights like "12,532 people tapped the 'create new artwork' button," "253 people opened the app from Spain yesterday," or "Users spend an average of 12 minutes with the app open."

This kind of data is important because it might reveal situations like "12,532 people tapped the 'create new artwork' button, but only 5 actually created one." That helps me conclude that perhaps the creation process isn't very clear, or maybe the button is too large and gets tapped by mistake. This is what my data dashboard looks like:

Analytics dashboard showing aggregated data

By the way, this aggregated usage data is collected and stored via Aptabase, an app analytics service designed precisely to obtain this type of data while maintaining privacy as a core principle. The data are stored on servers within the European Union.

That's all. I hope everything is clear, but if not, I'd be happy to personally answer your questions via email at mlzsergiomlz@gmail.com

What stays on your device

Your collection is local. Photos you choose, titles, artists, places, dates, tags, and notes are stored on your device and are not uploaded by default.

What we receive

  • Analytics (aggregated/anonymized): Basic usage and diagnostics to improve performance and reliability (e.g., feature usage, crashes).
  • Feedback (optional): If you send app feedback via email, we receive your message and any attachments you include.

What we don't collect

  • Accounts: No sign‑in or cloud sync at this time.
  • Precise location: No GPS is collected automatically. You can add museum/place names manually if you want.

How we protect data

Security: Encryption in transit and at rest where applicable, least‑privilege access, and monitored diagnostics.

Your choices

Remove any item from your collection at any time on your device.
